Welcome to theCARBON COUNTY, MONTANAGenWeb site! |
|
Carbon County, located in south central Montana bordering Wyoming, was created on 4 March 1895 from portions of Park and Yellowstone counties.
It lies north-east of the beautiful Beartooth Mountains and west of the Pryor Mountains. Named for the coal deposits originally discovered near what is now Red Lodge, Carbon County is also rich in oil and gas. The Clark's Fork Valley, in the central part of the county, provides cropland opportunities while in the foothills and mountains, cattle and hay operations abound.
Earlier day settlers were of diverse ethnic origins, including English, Scottish, Irish, German, Scandinavian, Finnish, Austrian, Yugoslavian, Italian and Russian.
Hello!
Did you notice the new URL (web-site address) for Carbon County MTGenWeb? If not, please update your bookmarks.
My name is Jackie Wilson Goddard and I am the hostess for the Carbon County MTGenWeb. While I do not live in Carbon County, I do have genealogical ties to this beautiful county. My son descends from the Smith and Murie families of the Joliet area. In addition, one of my maternal relatives, Stephen N. Dill, was a blacksmith in Gebo and Fromberg in the 1900-1920 time frame.
Please remember, I am unable to do local research for you.
If you have information to contribute, please use the e-mail link at the bottom of the page to submit it. Together, we can make this a great site!
